Nailed it!

I have been seeing Dalgona or “creamy coffee” all over my Facebook feed, and my friends seem to either love it or hate it! Apparently, a South Korean actor started the trend earlier this year by making some of it on TV. Also, people are saying, “The Greeks have been doing this forever! It’s called a frappé!” Either way, I decided to whip up a batch to see what all the fuss was about.

I’m not a regular coffee drinker, but I enjoy a cup every once in a while or in social situations. I was pretty skeptical at first, and I made the mistake of trying the froth before mixing it into the milk. It was far too strong! But, after mixing it in with some unsweetened almond milk (I’m taking a break from drinking milk), and adding ice, it was delicious! It feels like there is a bunch of Cool Whip mixed into it! It’s even better with flavored creamer!

I unsuccessfully tried to make it look fancy with chocolate syrup

I also saw somewhere to use chocolate milk to make it like a mocha! Since I’m not drinking milk, I made one for another family member and heated up the chocolate milk ahead of time.

Mixed with chocolate milk

The consensus was that it tastes pretty good after the shock of the first drink (it seemed strong). And that it is better iced than hot.

Ingredients for coffee whip:

2 Tablespoons Instant Coffee

2 Tablespoons Sugar

2 Tablespoons very hot/boiling Water

Add ingredients to small mixing bowl. Mix with electric mixer for 2-5 minutes until frothy (or 400 times with hand whisk).

Add to milk of your choice and stir in. Can add ice or serve hot.

I only used half of this recipe for my cup, so if you don’t want it as strong you can cut the recipe in half or experiment with equal amounts of the ingredients to get your desired strength!

Here is what I’ve tried adding to it:

  • Caramel Extract
  • Banana Extract
  • Maple Extract
  • Homemade Vanilla
  • Integral collagen
  • French Vanilla Creamer Powder

Please let me know in the comments if you tried this and feel free to leave any other suggestions or anything you’ve added to improve it!

Also, check out how I made it completely sugar free using stevia or monkfruit!
