Nailed it
I was so excited when I saw this idea on Pinterest! What kid doesn’t love magnets? I thought a magnet learning/play board would be great in my daughters room, especially for an affordable price (it cost me under $15 to buy pan and hang back in 2013).
I went to Walmart and picked up the huge drip pan in the auto section.
I got Command velcro strips, and we were set. At first I was trying to figure out how to cover the raised brand seal, and remembered I had my daughters name in foam adhesive letters.
I tried covering the brand with the letters but I didn’t like how it looked. I decided to put her name at the top and not worry about it. It is kind of cute that it says drip pan. We attached it to the wall and the kids loved playing with it. I ordered some Melissa and Doug wooden letter magnets from Amazon and they had fun with this board for years!
***This was a re-post from my blog in 2013 that somehow got all of the pictures deleted. I just recently came across some of the old pictures again.
UPDATE: I ordered some Melissa and Doug wooden letter magnets from Amazon. The Command Strips didn’t stay on the wallpaper for more than a couple of weeks. It may have worked better to have the bottom on the floor and lean it up on the wall and just attach it on the top. It was too heavy to stay there for long. It maybe would work on a normal painted wall. Leaning it up against the wall was fine, and often we would put it horizontally so multiple kids could play at the same time! Eventually it got pushed in and bent and it wasn’t getting played with much anymore, so I gave it away.
Great idea, I would say you nailed it!
Thanks! If I did it again I would do some things differently, but it was a fun project!
Tat’s a wonderful idea…I think I’ll do that for my grandson when he’s a little older.
Thanks! I hope you do! It’s a lot of fun for them! Or even putting magnets on a cookie sheet is fun!
Maybe your original pan has found its way into someone’s garage and is collecting drips after it’s illustrious career as an educator.
Blog on!
Ha! That would be great! Maybe I should have kept it and learned how to change my own oil! And then I could have taught my daughter! Aww man, oh well! Thanks for the comment!!
I love this…I could see myself making something like this for me! I love magnets!!!
Oh, I bet you could decorate it really pretty! Sounds fun!
